A Delicious Satay Daging Recipe For Everyone To Try

What Is Satay Daging?

Satay Daging, or Malaysian Beef Satay, is a traditional Malaysian dish that is cooked with marinated beef skewers and served with a spicy, aromatic peanut sauce. It is a popular street food dish in Malaysia, and is often served as an appetizer or as a main course at Malaysian restaurants.

Ingredients For Marinating The Beef

For the marinade, you will need:

  • 500g of beef (such as sirloin or ribeye) cut into thin strips
  • 2 tablespoons of oil (such as vegetable or olive oil)
  • 2 tablespoons of soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons of dark soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons of oyster sauce
  • 2 tablespoons of sugar
  • 1 teaspoon of ground black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon of ground coriander
  • 1 teaspoon of ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon of ground turmeric
  • 2 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon of freshly grated ginger
  • 1 teaspoon of curry powder

Instructions For Marinating The Beef

To marinate the beef, combine all the ingredients in a large bowl. Mix well to make sure that all the pieces of beef are evenly coated with the marinade. Cover and let the beef marinate in the fridge for at least 4 hours, or preferably overnight.

Instructions For Cooking The Satay Daging

Once the beef is marinated, thread the strips of beef onto skewers. Heat up a grill or grill pan to medium-high heat. Grill the skewers for 4-5 minutes on each side, or until the beef is cooked to your desired doneness. Serve the Satay Daging with the spicy peanut sauce (recipe below).

Ingredients For The Spicy Peanut Sauce

For the spicy peanut sauce, you will need:

  • 1/2 cup of smooth peanut butter
  • 1 tablespoon of soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon of dark soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon of sugar
  • 1 tablespoon of freshly grated ginger
  • 2 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon of curry powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon of ground cayenne pepper
  • 1/4 cup of water

Instructions For Making The Spicy Peanut Sauce

To make the sauce, combine the peanut butter, soy sauce, dark soy sauce, sugar, ginger, garlic, curry powder, and cayenne pepper in a small saucepan. Heat over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the sauce starts to bubble. Reduce the heat and simmer for 3-5 minutes, or until the sauce has thickened. Remove from heat and stir in the water. Serve with the Satay Daging.
